Environment 2008 Report

Dave Turner, Neighbourhood Action Impact Team Leader West

The 12th May saw an army of budding green fingers from Sandal Magna School who came to assist Steve Brear (nursery manager ) and myself to plant up concrete planters with sustainable plants, these are situated around Belle Vue and Agbrigg.

A great day was had by all, Steve and myself was amazed how hard-working the children were, well done.

14th July was the start of Agbrigg and Belle Vue Environment Week, here the Impact team moved in on a shrub bed at Montague Street which was an eyesore and a litter-trap, the team removed all the shrubs then soil and seeded it, when spring arrives this area will have abundance of colour with crocus.

Another problem the team solved was the residents of St Catherine Street had fly tippers tipping waste and rubbish over a wall to the rear of their properties, this was making life unbearable for these residents with flies, unpleasant smells, and rodents.

The team removed the fly tipping and erected a feather edge board fence on top of the wall, this fence brought a stop to the fly tipping.

It is an offence to fly tip, any one caught will be prosecuted.

To report any fly tipping, graffiti, litter, or anti social behaviour call our 24/7 contact centre on 0845 8 506 506.

Over the years the impact team has built a strong partnership with Woodcock Street allotment members, recently I acquired 100 used concrete flags (paving stones) so I contacted Dave Parkin to see if he could reuse them, he said that yes they could make use of them, now allotment holders have benefited by having better paths to their allotments.

I have seen this allotment site transform over the years with families growing healthy produce to eat.

The change has started in Belle Vue and Agbrigg, and the Impact Team look forward to working with you in 2009

Together we can make a difference in your neighbourhood.
