Cleaning up Agbrigg & Belle Vue

Valiant attempts are being made to clean up our area. Deep cleansing of streets on a regular basis by the local authority’s Neighbourhood Environment Team is continuing and we need to thank them for their strenuous efforts. Huge amounts of rubbish are being cleared by them from streets, allotment sites and areas regularly and illegally used for fly-tipping. We have asked for and got, new litter-bins on Agbrigg Road and Montague Street.

Unfortunately this  rubbish returns on a regular basis. Houses in this area have large amounts of rubbish dumped in back yards which no-one bothers to have removed. I have seen car batteries filled with acid left on the streets for young children to play with!

If you want to see a greatly improved area with an associated improvement in health, well-being and property values you need to get  involved in improving it! We need your help with improving our area.

How you can help

  • Talk to your family about keeping the area clean by picking up litter and putting it in a bin.
  • Sweep the area round your own property or business on a regular basis and put the rubbish in a bin.
  • Ring Environmental Services at the council on 0845 8506506 if you have bulky items of furniture in your yard that need to be taken away, they will tell you how to make this happen.
  • Fly-tipping is against the law. If you see someone drive up and unload their rubbish in the area, take their vehicle registration number and report them to the police.
  • Use the new forms at the Community Centre reception to report problems to the Neighbourhood Environment Team. Such problems might include:  litter/debris, grass-cutting in public areas, graffiti, overhanging vegetation, fly-tipping or fly-posting or anything else. We can help you to fill the forms in if you don’t know how to do it. You will get a response.
  • Volunteer a few hours a month to help with clean-ups or community gardening, ring Jean on 249474 for details.

It’s up to you to play a part in cleaning up this area, you live and work here!
